The lab
The core competence our lab resides in the ability to combine experimental mechanical testing, mathematical modeling, computer simulations and additive manufacturing for the characterization of biological materials and for prototyping novel bioinspired materials.
To do so, we have the following equipment and expertise at our disposal:
Image analysis
We have extensive skills in terms of image quantification both two and three dimensional from various modalities such as micro-computed tomography images or (back-scattered) electron imaging data.
Sample Preparation
The protocol to prepare samples consists of four main steps: cutting, dehydration, embedding, and grinding-polishing. The ultimate goal is to obtain flat embedded samples free of deformations and scratches for further examination and analysis.
Grinder-polisher
The MetaServ 250 grinder-polisher is composed of a 25 cm platen with a working range of 50–500 rpm as well as a Vector LC 250 Power Head enabling to perform single force semi-automatic operations on one to four specimens of 25 mm diameter.
Electromechanical universal tests system
Objet260 Connex2 3D printer
Nanoindenter TI 950 TriboIndenter
The Hysitron TI 950 TriboIndenter nanoindenter allows the nanomechanical characterization of various samples using quasi-static or oscillating techniques.
